While basic Embird program works mostly with stitch files, Studio uses vector objects for easier creation of design. Plug-ins for additional features are available through Embird Studio. The Embird Editor on the other hand, allows the user to add colors and trims. Also provided are thread catalogs that provide the user with options for choosing thread colors based on the design. Apart from these, the program is also able to recognize and open image files saved in the following formats: JPEG, TIF, GIF and BMP. Designs can be compressed in ZIP or RAR archives, or displayed in different scales and it also provides a 3D preview of the design patterns.
